Psychologist, M.Sc. · For people working internationally

Perform well.

Feel like
yourself again.

Sustained demand with too little recovery is what often wears capable people down, anywhere. Working abroad adds to that demand. Structured psychological consulting that restores recovery first — then reshapes the life that crowded it out.

Still performing.Feeling lesslike yourself.

You sleep as much as before, but wake up less restored.Something changed, and you can’t quite name what.

Small things test your patience more than they used to.Later, you wish you had responded differently.

Work is over, but your thoughts keep returning to it.When you’re with people, you’re tired and distracted.

The work still gets done. That’s part of what makes it easy to ignore.

Why effort stops working.

Modern life asks for sustained output and gives back almost nothing the body recognizes as recovery. The stress response is built to rise and resolve; most weeks give it nothing to resolve against.

You can still do the things you know would help — once. What stops being possible is making one of them hold, because that draws on the capacity the demand has already spent.

Which is why this doesn’t respond to trying harder.

Why the sequence starts with recovery

What makes this even harder abroad.

More demand, and less to meet it with. A second language all day, which costs more than anyone around you can see. No one nearby who knew you before. The people who did are six time zones away.

And as an expat, you were usually brought in to fix something. Which makes showing strain the one thing not available to you.

Not therapy. Not coaching.

This is psychological consulting. The work starts with recovery — trained, physiological, measurable — before anything about habits, boundaries or thinking. Most people who come here are still performing at work. It’s everything around it that has been giving way.

The person behind
the work

I’m a psychologist, M.Sc., with a focus on health psychology. I work one-to-one with people who keep performing under sustained demand and want recovery to become reliable again.

Before this: years of study in Germany, the Netherlands and Singapore, with research and teaching posts at German and Dutch universities alongside it, then leadership development inside a large company — much of it in a language that wasn’t my first. Before that, close to two decades of competitive wrestling, through to the German Bundesliga.

This is structured psychological consulting: one-to-one sessions, agreed practices, honest review. It is not psychotherapy, medical treatment, diagnosis or crisis support. If something is urgent, contact emergency services or a doctor where you are. If you’re unsure what that looks like in the country you’re in, say so when you apply.

The work is for adults who are still meeting the demands of everyday and professional life, and who want structured support in restoring capacity and self-regulation. If psychotherapy, medical care or crisis support is needed, this is not the right setting for it.

That’s the short version. The detail is here if you want it:
